Tattoo ink Canvas

Tattoo ink Canvas is not about tattoo in the traditional sense. Rather, it is about transferring the art of tattoo from the body to the canvas, about stirring up the categories of moving and inert art.

The concept of Tattoo ink Canvas was born in Chile in 2009 from a series of improvised encounters where performers of the body arts expressed their visions in magnificent paintings, skateboards, shoes, carton and wood. The audience could experience live painting, global and experimental music, visual arts, dance and poetry. The encounters became a unique framework of experimentation and spontaneity where the art of tattoo fusioned with other arts and generated unexpected outcomes.

The event is organized by Leonardo Cuevas (Chile), producer and photographer, Hanna Skartveit (Norway), antropologist and translator, and producer asistent Israel Silva (Chile), tattoo artist .The event forms an artistic symbiosis: a workshop and meeting place for artists and a distinctive space for the audience, who may also be participants. We will create an atmosphere of visual and auditory stimuli where the contributors work towards an experimental fusion of their diverse personal backgrounds and together aspire towards the origins of art itself.

Ink Well

Nothing says "I've been in prison" like an armful of tattoos. Worldwide, studies report that up to half of prisoners get tattoos while doing time. Because prison tattooing is illegal, inmates create their inking equipment with whatever they can scrounge: ink made from burned Styrofoam cups, shampoo, or anything else that can be turned into a dark liquid is injected through makeshift tattoo guns using parts from radios, PlayStations, or anything else with a rudimentary motor. And a needle can be crafted from just about anything sharp—even a staple.
